The first two weeks are deliberately conservative. Mileage builds through Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic, then drops in Vermont, the White Mountains and southern Maine where elevation and terrain matter more than the number on the map.
About one rest or resupply day is planned each week. A fixed family break runs June 19–26, with hiking resuming June 27.
